Module 10: Installation Practicum (Applied Lab)

This module is a planning exercise rather than new lecture content — it's where the numbers from Modules 3–6 get applied to a concrete scenario, the same way you'll be asked to do in the capstone project on the final exam.

Work through the following planning sequence for a hypothetical 4-acre rectangular horse paddock, roughly 400 ft × 435 ft, with one existing gate location on the road side:

  1. Choose a perimeter material (Module 2) and justify it against the visibility/impact criteria.
  2. Size the corner posts and specify line-post spacing for that material (Modules 5–6).
  3. If electrified, specify a target on-fence voltage and sketch a grounding plan (Module 3).
  4. If off-grid, run the solar sizing calculation from Module 4 for the chosen energizer's daily draw.
  5. Mark where the fence would need tighter spacing (corners) and where gate placement should sit relative to the corners (Module 6).

Keep your notes from this exercise — the exam's capstone project builds directly on this same style of full-property plan, applied to a scenario you'll be given at that point.

This module has no fixed "answer"

There's no single correct layout for the practicum scenario — the exam capstone will grade your capstone submission on whether your choices are internally consistent and correctly justified against the standards from Modules 1–9, not on matching one prescribed layout.
